The FIRE-CHARMER

Where Souls Meet Again

Two centuries. Lives intertwined

Sandra is an ambitious, well-respected journalist who moves with ease among the Finland-Swedish high society of Helsinki – until her husband does the unthinkable.

Suddenly friendless and unemployed, she takes refuge in a villa in a small town west of Helsinki.

A villa that seems to have awaited her arrival for years.

ELIN – TWO CENTURIES EARLIER

In the remote Åbo archipelago of eighteenth-century Finland, Elin and her twin brother Eric work from dawn to dusk for a cruel landowner. When Eric accidentally kills the landowner’s son, he is forced to flee.

If Elin cannot find him and bring him home, she faces a life of brutal servitude in the manor house, at the mercy of its master.

Determined to find her brother, Elin sets out on a search that will take her far beyond the world she has always known. Along the way, she meets Jack Daniel, a young sailor from Cornwall.

Before long, the lives of Elin, Eric and Jack have become inextricably intertwined.

What could possibly connect these lives, more than two hundred years apart?

A mystery that refuses to stay in the past.

TWO CENTURIES LATER...

Sandra has never believed in ghosts or apparitions.
But the inexplicable is becoming increasingly difficult to dismiss.

Objects appear for no apparent reason.
A pirate turns up in her bedroom.
And the house seems determined to tell her something.

Sandra has already lost almost everything that once mattered to her. How much more is she prepared to risk to discover what is happening?

Meanwhile, somewhere on the high seas, Eric is leaving an enigmatic trail for his sister to follow.

Will Elin find the brother she loves?

What are the ties that bind these lives together – across centuries, across lifetimes, perhaps even beyond death?

A novel twenty-five years in the making

Some books arrive quickly. This one did not.

I began writing the story that eventually became The Fire Charmer almost twenty-five years before I finished it in 2025.

For long periods, the manuscript simply waited. Once, I put it aside for ten years. When I returned to it, I picked up the story where I had left it.

The manuscript had waited. I had changed.

I needed time, experience and spiritual growth before I could tell the story to its end.

There is more I could say about that journey.

But some things are better discovered after the final page.
